As well as being a genius composer, Richard Strauss was a master of self-promotion. The hero of this work is himself, and mischievous portraits of his wife, friends, and the music critics fill the music. Alongside Ein Heldenleben (A Hero’s Life), we perform music by Strauss’ own hero, Mozart and his immortal Symphony no. 40.
