The Hong Kong Philharmonic Chorus (HK Phil Chorus) has been delighting audiences since its inception in 1980. Over the years, it has showcased a diverse range of choral masterpieces in exclusive collaboration with the HK Phil. In 2013, the chorus launched an extensive recruitment campaign that attracted over 450 singers to audition. The newly formed ensemble debuted with a performance of Handel’s Messiah and has gone on to sing major works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Britten, Haydn and Mahler, under the direction of renowned conductors like Lorin Maazel, Jaap van Zweden and Nicholas McGegan. Notably, the Chorus’ Fellowship programme was inaugurated during the 2020/21 season, setting the stage for aspiring professional singers to join this distinguished ensemble. 
  
Since the 2022/23 season, the chorus has been collaborating with the Macao Orchestra on various programmes, including Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9, Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the BBC’s Seven Worlds, One Planet. This partnership highlights HK Phil’s cultural exchange initiatives within the Greater Bay Area. 

2026/27 Season Chorus Audition

The HK Phil Chorus is now recruiting new members for the 2026/27 season. Singers aged 18 or above of all experience levels and backgrounds are welcome to apply for an open audition. 

Highlights of the HK Phil Chorus in 2026/27 season include:

1. Mahler’s Symphony no. 8 with HK Phil Music Director Tarmo Peltokoski, London Philharmonic Choir and Hong Kong Children’s Choir
2. Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9 with Gustavo Dudamel
3. Mahler’s Symphony no. 2 with HK Phil Music Director Tarmo Peltokoski
4. Brahms’s Nänie, op. 82 and Schicksalslied, op. 54 with Christoph Altstaedt

Interested singers should submit your online application here on or before 8 July 2026 (Wed) 6:00pm. Selected applicants will be invited to an audition in mid-July 2026.
