For many he is one of the great composers of the 20th century, his music a miraculous mixture of richly romantic melodies, lively folk dances and spine-tingling rhythms. If the magic of Bartók has so far eluded you, don’t miss this marvellous opportunity to hear two of his most distinctive works, one a vivid portrayal of magic, mystery and mayhem on the city the streets, the other an intimate expression of forbidden love.
European star violinist, Isabelle Faust, promises a fantastic journey through the concerto which Bartók regarded as so personal he kept it hidden for 50 years, as well as through the delightful companion piece Schumann wrote for the Concerto which his wife wouldn’t allow to be heard in public.
To complete this tantalising programme, Italian conductor, Carlo Rizzi, has also unearthed the rarely-heard Symphony which the young Schumann hoped would impress his mother.
