R Strauss:Der Rosenkavalier

In 2005, Edo de Waart and the Hong Kong Philharmonic stunned Hong Kong audiences with concert performances of Richard Strauss’s scandalous early operas Salome and Elektra. For his next stage work, Strauss turned his back on shocking musical and dramatic violence and produced one of the most entertaining and glamourous operas in the repertoire. Der Rosenkavalier is a sweet tale of young love set against a background of fading beauty in the exquisite drawing rooms of 18th Century Vienna. Once again, a stellar cast has been assembled, headed by glorious German soprano Dagmar Schellenberger, the current reigning Marschallin at the Vienna State Opera, and featuring a show-stopping guest appearance by Hong Kong’s own operatic star Warren Mok.

"Message of Love"

Richard Strauss's most popular and entertaining opera, Der Rosenkavalier centres around the shifting romantic attachments of four principal characters. When Octavian and Sophie were finally together, they bared their hearts at the end of the opera, "I feel you and only you, and that we are together! All else passes like a dream before my senses." Sophie responded, “It is a dream, it cannot be real that we two are together, together for all time and all eternity!” The duet is long treated as the classic message of love.

The "Message of Love" campaign invites you to write your own message of love to your special someone. The best messages will be selected for publication/broadcast on Sing Tao Daily, Hong Kong Broadband TV and RTHK Radio 1. All selected participants will receive a gift. One participant will be selected for the grand prize – a white gold diamond necklace with pink tourmaline (approx. value HK$ 27,000) , sponsored by Chow Sang Sang. Express your love to him/her and win the fabulous prize!
