Mozart’s special relationship with the soprano voice is
highlighted with a selection of magnificent arias from two of
his most entertaining operas as well as in Exsultate Jubilate
performed here by the brilliant young Austrian soprano, Mara
Mastalir. Acclaimed Dutch conductor and specialist in music
of the time, Jan Willem de Vriend, frames Mozart’s glorious
vocal music with instrumental music written immediately
before and after Mozart’s time. Rameau’s opera, based
on Greek mythology, is full of enchanting dances, while
Beethoven’s Second Symphony mixes humour and wit with
some great tunes.
