Zhang Haochen made his début at the age of five in his
native Shanghai. Seven years later he became the youngestever
winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition of
Young Musicians, and in 2009 the youngest participant and
the first Chinese recipient to be awarded the Gold Medal at
the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
The first female ever to be awarded the Herbert von Karajan
Conducting Fellowship, Carolyn Kuan, is described as “one of
the most exciting, innovative and outstanding conductors of her
generation”. Hear these two members of the new generation of
musicians perform a programme of well-established Russian
classics.
