The Musical Light of No Fear
Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii rose to international prominence after winning the gold medal at the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, where Van Cliburn himself described Tsujii’s playing as “Absolutely miraculous. His performance had the power of a healing service…truly divine.” Following his performance of Ravel’s Piano Concerto with the HK Phil in 2023, he is performing an equally cheerful Second Concerto of Shostakovich. Renowned Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu, whose recording of Rautavaara has received a Grammy nomination, leads Rautavaara’s Angel of Light of transcendental beauty and Scriabin’s luxuriously orchestrated Poem of Ecstasy.

The concert runs approximately 2 hours with an intermission.
