Following the success of her concerto performances on the Hong Kong Philharmonic’s recent China Tour, Chen Sa gives her highly anticipated recital in a richly diverse program centred around one of Beethoven last Sonatas. Ravel’s own piano version of his outrageous waltz has proved too technically challenging to find its place in the standard repertoire. Ravel’s genius for orchestration guaranteed Mussorgsky a place in the orchestral repertoire, but this rarely heard piano version of the haunting Night on Bald Mountain sees an orchestral classic condensed into a piano tour de force.
