Vineta Sareika

Vineta Sareika

Vineta Sareika’s musical path is defined by a deep integration of chamber music and orchestral leadership. By reaching the highest levels in both fields, she has developed a holistic approach to music-making that dissolves the boundaries between genres and focuses on music as a unified whole.

In 2023, she became the first woman to be appointed first concertmaster in the 140-year history of the Berlin Philharmonic. This milestone followed a decade of international acclaim as the primaria of the Artemis Quartet. Her experience as a leader also extends to regular invitations as a guest concertmaster with orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

A laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, Vineta’s solo and chamber music career has taken her to the world's most prestigious stages, from Carnegie Hall to the Berlin Philharmonie and the Vienna Musikverein. Her discography - featuring recordings with the Artemis Quartet, Trio Dali, and pianist Amandine Savary - has been honored with the Echo Klassik, Diapason d’Or, and Gramophone Editor’s Choice.

Today, building on her extensive background, Vineta has emerged as a leading exponent of "Play-Direct" projects. In these performances, she leads orchestral ensembles from the violin, combining the intimacy of chamber music with the power of a symphonic body.

Beyond the stage, Vineta Sareika is Professor of Chamber Music at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) and an Honorary Professor at the Latvian Music Academy. She is regularly invited to give masterclasses at prestigious institutions and festivals such as Academy Domaine Forget (Canada), the Villars Music Academy (Switzerland), the ProQuartet Centre in Paris, and the Ilumina Festival in Brazil. Furthermore, she is a frequent jury member for the world’s most elite competitions, including the ARD International Music Competition, the Queen Elisabeth Competition, La Maestra Conducting Competition, or the Geneva International String Quartet Competition.

She performs on an Antonio Stradivari violin (1683), generously on loan from the Ruggieri Foundation.
