Mariano Chiacchiarini
Mariano Chiacchiarini is recognised as one of the most compelling conductors of his generation. Born in Buenos Aires to a family of Italian heritage, he won First Prize at the Teatro Colón Conducting Competition at the age of 25, launching an international career that has led to collaborations with leading conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Pierre Boulez, Ivan Fischer, Daniele Gatti, Riccardo Muti, Riccardo Chailly, and Bernard Haitink.
He has conducted many of the world’s foremost orchestras and ensembles, including the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Lucerne Festival Orchestras, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Filarmonica della Scala, Russian National Symphony, Philharmonique de Radio France, Gulbenkian Orquestra, WDR Sinfonieorchester, Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, German Radio Philharmonic, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, MusikFabrik, and Ensemble Modern. He has appeared at major festivals and venues including the Lucerne Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Young Euro Classic, Accademia Chigiana, Elbphilharmonie, Konzerthaus Vienna and Berlin, Tchaikovsky Hall Moscow, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and l’Opéra Bastille.
Mariano’s artistry has been recognised with the ECHO Music Prize, the German Record Critics’ Award, the KONEX Prize in Music, and the Premio Nacional Clásica. More recently he conducted Barbara Hannigan’s Momentum Project, was recognised as “Outstanding Personality of the Culture” of his hometown, and was appointed a member of the German Music Council. In 2025, he received the “Conductor of the Year” award from the Buenos Aires Parliament Music Critics Association. Since 2022, Mariano has served as Universitätsmusikdirektor of the University of Bremen.
