[9 October 2026, Hong Kong] The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) is thrilled to present two captivating operatic evenings, featuring world-renowned tenor and Rolex Testimonee Juan Diego Flórez under the baton of distinguished conductor Michele Spotti, both making their HK Phil debuts. The concerts will be held in Hong Kong and Guangzhou on 22 and 24 October 2026 respectively. Tickets are available now.

Rolex Proudly Presents: Juan Diego Flórez Opera Gala (22 October, Hong Kong)

As one of the most recognised artists in opera today, Juan Diego Flórez has captivated audiences at The Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, the Royal Opera House, and beyond. Renowned for his bel canto artistry, the Peruvian tenor is also the founder of Sinfonía por el Perú, a transformative initiative bringing music to underserved young people. A Rolex Testimonee since 2015, Flórez shares the brand’s commitment to the transmission of artistic excellence to future generations.

Flórez’s Hong Kong debut offers a rare opportunity to experience this world-class vocal powerhouse in arias by Rossini, Donizetti, Massenet and Verdi, among others. The concert will be conducted by Michele Spotti, Musical Director of Marseille’s Opera House and Philharmonic Orchestra.

Following the Hong Kong performance, Juan Diego Flórez, Michele Spotti and the HK Phil will travel to Guangzhou to present the same programme.

Michele Spotti is the Musical Director of Marseille’s Opera House and Philharmonic Orchestra and has been appointed by the Deutsche Oper Berlin as the next Principal Guest Conductor starting from the 2026/27 season. The 2026/27 season features three productions at the Deutsche Oper Berlin – Lucia di Lammermoor, La traviata and Don Carlo – as well as Carmen at Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Die Zauberflöte at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Lohengrin at the Opéra national du Capitole de Toulouse, L’elisir d’amore at Opernhaus Zürich and Anna Bolena at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Juan Diego Flórez, tenor [full description]

Juan Diego Flórez was born in Lima, Peru, in 1973. He began singing and playing Peruvian folk and popular music from an early age. At 17, he entered Lima’s National Conservatory of Music, and three years later received a scholarship to continue his vocal studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. In 1996, he made his professional debut at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, stepping in on short notice to sing the leading tenor role of Corradino in Matilde di Shabran. The success of this appearance led immediately to his debut later that year at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, singing in Gluck’s Armide under Riccardo Muti for the theatre’s season opening. These early engagements marked the beginning of an international career that has brought him to many of the world’s foremost opera houses. Juan Diego Flórez has been a Rolex Testimonee since 2015.
