Inspired by the great philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, Richard Strauss’s symphonic poem Also sprach Zarathustra has become one of the most iconic passages in classical music, particularly following its iconic use in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. German conductor Michael Sanderling returns to lead the HK Phil as the programme also features the world premiere of the Maverick Cello Concerto by Hong Kong-born British composer Dani Howard, co-commissioned by the HK Phil and performed by Principal Cello Richard Bamping.
The concert runs approximately 1 hour 30 minutes with an intermission.
