Programme
Mozart and Nutcracker to Usher in a Festive Season
“Born to conduct” (BBC Music Magazine), Russian conductor Maxim Emelyanychev and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra were hailed as “five-star” by The Guardian for an “unforgettable, supercharged Mozart” performance in their Proms debut. A gifted Mozartian and an accomplished keyboard soloist, Emelyanychev makes his HK Phil debut with Mozart’s glorious concerto, framing it with music from his native Russia. Rachmaninov’s early work, The Rock, encapsulates a poignant connection with the young composer’s mentor, Tchaikovsky. With his buoyant, dance-like physicality on the stage, Emelyanychev conjures up shimmering magic in Tchaikovsky’s delightful Nutcracker selections, perfectly ushering in a sparkling festive season.
The concert runs approximately 2 hours 15 minutes with an intermission.
