Rachmaninov’s career balanced touring the world as one of the greatest piano virtuosos of the first half of the 20th Century with composition and conducting. His music for piano and orchestra is among the most enduringly popular in the entire repertoire and his orchestral works have such a distinctive and personal character that they are instantly identifiable. In a multi-year cycle, the Hong Kong Philharmonic presents all of Rachmaninov’s works for piano and orchestra with the superb Macedonian pianist Simon Trpceski and all of the symphonies and major orchestral works to create the ultimate Rachmaninov experience.
