Mozart’s Vienna was fascinated by Turkish culture, and he enriched his music with its colours and rhythms – both the Turkish Concerto and Abductionfrom the Seraglio. Strauss also conjured the exotic, in his bewitching fairytale, Die Frau ohne Schatten, and of course Salome’s notorious Dance of the Seven Veils.
