Vadim Repin has emerged as one of the greatest violinists of his generation, performing frequently with all of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. In the upcoming concerts, he brings his unique mastery to Beethoven's towering Violin Concerto. Berlioz's extravagant symphony is a breathless romp through the wild imaginations of one of music's true individuals. The composer's "Dream diary" is turned into a cinematic score, an orchestral adventure like no other.
Fiery passion with impeccable technique, poetry and sensitivity are Repin's trademarks, and his name has become synonymous with the violin. He has appeared with, among others, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, La Scala, the Los Angeles, Cleveland, and New York Philharmonic Orchestras, the Orchestre de Paris, the Royal Concertgebouw, San Francisco Symphony and under the baton of leading conductors such as Chailly, Dutoit, Eschenbach, Gergiev, Masur, Mehta, Muti, Nagano, Rattle, and Zinman. Chamber music partners have included Martha Argerich, Yuri Bashmet, Evgeny Kissin, Mischa Maisky and Mikhail Pletnev.

SWIRE CLASSIC INSIGHTS - In 2006/07 the Hong Kong Philharmonic is introducing a series of free pre-concert talks from 7:15pm to 7:45pm prior to every concert in the Swire Maestro Series. Classic Insights will take place in the level 4 foyer of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Talks on Friday evenings will be conducted in English and those on Saturday evenings will be in Cantonese.

Maureen Buja is Resident Musicologist for the Hong Kong–based Naxos Digital Services Limited. She received her doctorate from the University of North Carolina with additional studies at the University of Illinois and Columbia University. She has been music book editor for Oxford University Press in New York and editor for Macmillan in London (working on The New Grove Dictionary of Opera.) Dr. Buja has taught musicology at Columbia University and the University of Hong Kong. She has published three books on Renaissance music and is currently Editor-in-Chief of Fontes Artis Musicae, the journal of the International Association of Music Libraries.
