Owing to illness, Sara Macliver will not be appearing in the above-listed concert. Australian soprano Celeste Lazarenko will step in to perform the same programme.

Celeste Lazarenko’s association with Opera Australia stretches back to her years as a member of the Australian Opera Children’s Chorus appearing in many staged productions including Hänsel und Gretel, Tosca, Otello and Baz Luhrmann’s La Bohème. In 2004 she returned to Sydney to sing with the Opera Australia chorus in the baroque double bill of Dido and Aeneas and Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda. Celeste has also worked with the Australian Ballet singing in performances of Carmina Burana and Faure’s Requiem, recorded for the short film ‘Chain’ and appeared in the internationally successful cinema hit ‘Babe’. She regularly appears on the concert platform in Sydney in oratorio performances and for three years running was the soloist in the Sydney City Council’s ‘Christmas in the Town Hall’. She performed in a series of concerts with the Utah Symphony Orchestra in 2003, and in 2005 she made her debut with Sydney Philharmonia, singing Messiah to great acclaim. Her engagements in 2006 include Nannetta in Falstaff for the Guildhall, Mahler 4th Symphony for Oxford Symphonia, Messiah with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and a New Years’ Eve Gala in Perth Concert Hall. In 2007 she will make her debut with Opera North in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo and return to Melbourne Symphony for Mahler 4th Symphony.
