The Grand Organ of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, one of the finest instruments in Asia, gets a real workout in Jongen’s expansive and thoroughly enjoyable Symphonie-concertante, written in the 1920s and featuring soloist Olivier Latry, organist of Notre-Dâme de Paris. As a soothing prelude, Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony is a joyous celebration of nature, interrupted only briefly by the hoisting of the No.8 Signal.
