A Prelude to the 2009 HKPO China Tour
Specials
Programme
The music of Gustav Mahler has been central to the Hong Kong Philharmonic’s repertoire since the arrival of Edo de Waart in 2004. On the eve of an extensive China tour, the Orchestra reprises the dramatic, moving and finally jubilant Symphony No.5 before taking it on the road to showcase Hong Kong’s flagship orchestra in Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai. Chen Sa’s performance of Beethoven’s Fourth Concerto in last season’s Beethoven + 5 weekend showed a depth and affinity for this composer, making her performance of the Third Concerto a much anticipated event.
Four performances in the Mainland
