Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela

Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela

The Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela is the flagship orchestra of El Sistema, the internationally renowned Venezuelan music education movement founded in 1975 by Maestro José Antonio Abreu. Formed in 2005 by Abreu and led since its inception by conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the orchestra brings together some of the most outstanding musicians to emerge from this transformative programme, which has inspired generations of young people through the power of music.

The orchestra has performed on many of the world’s most prestigious stages, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Salle Pleyel in Paris, and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Its musicians have collaborated with leading conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Krzysztof Penderecki, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Lorin Maazel.

Through international tours and acclaimed recordings — including a Grammy nomination in 2026 — the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra continues to captivate audiences worldwide, representing the artistic excellence and transformative spirit of El Sistema while serving as a cultural ambassador for Venezuela on the global stage.
