Raymond Leung began his percussion studies in 1979 with Mr Christine Philip (Former Principal Timpanist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic), Jeffrey Pantric (Former Percussionist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic ), and Mr Lung Heung-wing (Former Principal Percussionist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic ). In 1985, he furthered his study in the School of Music of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with Mr Lung Heung-wing, major in Western percussion.
He graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 1989 and joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic as percussionist in the same year.
He is an active percussionist in Hong Kong and is the Principal Percussionist and Timpanist of numerous music societies, and he has toured to many countries.
Besides as percussion performer, he is also the instructor of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Baptist University. He has studied aboard many summers for classical percussion, African drumming, Brazilian percussion, Steel drum performance, construction and tuning in Canada, Hawaii, West Virginia University ( U.S.A. ), Chicago, Australia, Senegal and Gambia of west Africa with numerous professional performers and instructors.
He is the co-founder and Chairman of the ethnic drumming group - "Island Sun Drum", founder of the True Light Girls' College Percussion Marching Band, founder of Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Sau Nam Primary School Steel Band, founder of Methodist school Percussion Band, founder of Ping Shek Catholic Primary School Percussion Band, and co-founder and Chairman of the Hong Kong Percussion Quartet - JENGA and a number of school percussion bands in Hong Kong.
He has conducted many workshops and master classes for students and teachers both in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau with different music/education societies.
