Born in Inner Mongolia, Wulanchabu, in 1988, Liu Boxuan began her formal music training on the violin at the age of four under the tutelage of her father, and later with Professor Jin Zai-qing and Professor Huang Xiao-zhi.

She completed secondary school in Tianjin Music Conservatory in 2006 where she had studied under Chinese violin master Gao Lian-fa.  The same year she was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music to study with the world famous violin master Xue Wei.

After winning numerous local and international awards, Liu was awarded first prize in the Sonata Competition at the First Central Conservatory of Music in May 2008, and Silver Award in CCTV “Ords” piano and violin competition in  the same year.

She has participated in various masterclasses, including International chamber music master-classes with Rainer Kussmaul (former concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic) and Sadao Harada (former cellist of the Tokyo String Quartet).  In 2010 she earned high recognition from the famous violinist Hu Kun after attending his masterclass.

In 2010 she became a Robert H .N. Ho Family Foundation Orchestral Fellow of the Hong Kong Philharmonic. She has joined the second violin section of the orchestra since 2012/13 season.
