A violinist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic since 2002, Gallant Ho earned his Master of Music Degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music after receiving a scholarship from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund for Overseas Study in 2000. At the conservatory, he studied violin under Wei He and Camilla Wicks, and chamber music with the late Nathan Schwartz.

 

Previous to his studies in America, Gallant Ho received his Bachelor Degree from the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts (HKAPA) in 2000. His teachers there included Michael Ma, Pavel Prantl and Lo Chu Tung. In all, he has performed in masterclasses with Joseph Silverstein, Henry Roth, Pinchas Zukerman, Yfrah Neaman, Sylvia Rosenburg, Jorja Fleezanis, Elmer Oliveira, Sergiu Luca and the late Isaac Stern.

 

Gallant Ho has performed as a soloist with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra. He has won several competitions, including First Prize in the Sandra Wagstaff Scholarship for Strings Concerto Competition (1997), Second Prize in the Hong Kong Commercial Radio Award (1996) and Third Prize in the Kocian International Violin Competition (Youth Class) in the Czech Republic (1994).

 

As a student, Gallant Ho received many scholarships: Ruggiero Ricci Prize for Violin Performance (1998 and 1999), Guinness Flight Scholarship (1998), Telstral Scholarship (1998), Friend of the HKAPA Scholarship (1997) and the Exxon Scholarship (1997). He has also participated in the 1994 International Youth Music Festival in Aberdeen, Scotland, and was invited to join the Pacific Music Festival in 2000.
