Maestro Lorin Maazel

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Maestro Lorin Maazel, who passed away on 13 July 2014 at his home in Virginia, from complications following pneumonia. He was 84 years old.

We join the whole orchestral world in paying tribute to a legendary artistic figure, who only last November had shared his mastery with Hong Kong on our podium in wonderful performances of works by Britten and Wagner.

Maestro Maazel was scheduled to conduct three main stage concerts and our Share the Stage educational project this coming November on the dates below. These programme and concerts will proceed on the advertised dates and times. The HK Phil will make an announcement as soon as possible regarding a replacement conductor.
‧4 November 2014: Jockey Club Keys to Music Education Programme – Share the Stage
‧7 November 2014: Hong Kong Cultural Centre – Celebrating 25 Years
‧12 November 2014: Brahms 4 & 1
‧15 November 2014: Brahms 3 & 2

Once a replacement conductor is confirmed, the HK Phil will contact subscribers to these concerts, who can choose to continue subscriptions to these concerts, to change to other ones, or to receive a refund.

Meanwhile, we take this opportunity to thank our public for their understanding.
