[21 March 2011 – Hong Kong] Following the success of its first ever community concert in Tin Shui Wai in 2010, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO), under its “HSBC Insurance Creative Notes” music education programme, will once again reach out to the residents of another outlying community, Tung Chung, on 26 March with a programme that combines Mussorgsky’s most popular work - Pictures at an Exhibition - with the beautiful paintings inspired by the music.

The largest performance ever by a professional orchestra in Tung Chung, “HSBC Insurance Creative Notes” Tung Chung Community Concert will be held at Ching Chung Hau Po Woon Primary School (Fu Tung Estate, Tung Chung) on 26 March 2011 (Saturday) 2:15pm – 3:15pm and 4pm – 5pm, open to the public free of charge. Paintings is the theme of this year’s concerts and the over 60 strong orchestra will be led by conductor Philip Chu in Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky’s most famous work, Pictures at an Exhibition, which includes colorful movements such as The Gnomes, Dispute between Children and Play and Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks.  To inspire, and engage, the young talents from the area through the pleasures of musical notes and brushstrokes, all these special images will be captured by students from Tung Chung whose works will be on proud display at the concerts for the audiences to enjoy.  In order for the teachers to help their students create the art pieces, the HKPO invites arts education specialist Miss To Yee Ming (Music Panel of Po Leung Kuk Yao Ling Sun College) has presented a free workshop on how to guide students to music appreciation through art on 18 March.

The flagship performing arts company in Hong Kong and a leading orchestra in Asia, the HKPO believes in the importance of making music part of our daily lives and has been advancing music education in Hong Kong for decades, a mission shared by the HSBC Insurance, the program’s sponsor since the program’s inception.  “HSBC Insurance believes that music can enrich everyone’s life and improve their physical and mental well-being. We are proud to help nurture Hong Kong’s future leaders by sowing the musical seeds and equipping these youngsters to reap lifelong rewards,” said David Fried, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Insurance (Aisa-Pacific) Holdings Limited.
