When Yundi Meets "Yundi"
Press Conference

[4 Feb 2010, Hong Kong] World renowned Chinese pianist Yundi Li is returning to the city to collaborate with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO) under the baton of the Maestro Edo de Waart for two concerts and a piano recital in celebration of the 200th Anniversary of Chopin. Sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong), “Yundi Li & the HKPO” will be held on 5 & 6 Feb, 8pm at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. A all-Chopin “Yundi Li in Recital”, sponsored by Shun Hing Group, will be held on 8 February, 8pm at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.  A press conference was held today for the occasion and opened with a very special repartee between the two Yundi’s.  The two Yundi’s were on stage trading remarks and covered a range of topics from his/their upcoming collaboration with the HKPO and future plans.  Does Yundi have a twin brother that we have never been introduced?

The other Yundi was revealed later in the press conference as the life size Madame Tussauds wax figure specially made for Yundi and arranged to be flown from Shanghai’s museum to Hong Kong for display for the first time to inaugurate the concerts.  Recently signed on to a new record company, his new album of all Chopin Nocturnes will be released in March.

To round off the press conference, Mr. Alex Lee, Chief Operating Officer of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, sponsor of the Yundi Li & HKPO concerts presented a cheque to Mr. So Hau Leung, the Chief Executive of the HKPO, in supporting the 5&6 Feb “Yundi Li & the HKPO” concerts. Mr. Wong also presented a set of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games HKD Commemorative Banknotes to Yundi while Ms. Cynthia Mong, the Director of the Shun Hing Group presented a Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GF1 digital camera.  Finally all the guests, Mr. Alex Lee, Ms. Cynthia Mong and Mr. Bret Pidgeon, the General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong & Shanghai, came on stage along with Mr. So Hau Leung and Yundi to celebrate the 200th birthday of Chopin and mark the end of the press conference by a special cake cutting ceremony.
