Nodame Live! 2 – Extra concert by popular demand

Hong Kong 11th February 2009 – The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra will play an additional Nodame Live! 2 concert following overwhelming public reaction to the concerts on 13th and 14th February which have virtually sold out.

The extra concert will be held on 14 February at 4pm at Queen Elizabeth Stadium. The HKPO will perform popular pieces played in Japanese drama Nodame Cantabile. Under the baton of Edo de Waart, the HKPO together with young pianist Wai-yin Wong and HKPO Principal Oboe Michael Wilson will bring the audience a sweet Valentine’s Day with classical music.

Wong Wai-yin
Fifteen-year-old pianist Wong Wai-yin is currently a student of Mr Gabriel Kwok, Head of Keyboard Department of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts where she was admitted at the age of five under the tutorage of Hui Ling. This April, she became the youngest Gold Medal winner in the Intermediate Group (age 14 – 19) of the VII International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz held in Ukraine. She was invited to perform in the Opening Solo Recital for the Newport International Festival in USA and a recital in Salle Alfred Cortot of Paris, and was featured as one of the give young soloists performing the give Beethoven Piano Concertos with Edo de Waart and the HKPO in September 2007.

Michael Wilson
Michael Wilson was appointed Co-Principal Oboe of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in September 2005. Prior to coming to Hong Kong, Michael worked regularly with the London based orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra as well as outside of the capital, with the Bournemouth Symphony and Ulster Orchestras. He was Guest Principal Oboe for the English Symphony Orchestra with which he has toured with Nigel Kennedy playing a double concerto.
