Tasmin Little to perform Britten’s Violin Concerto in place of J. Jansen

Hong Kong, 28 June 2005 – The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO) announces today that owing to illness, Janine Jansen will not be appearing as soloist in the concerts, The Planets. British violinist Tasmin Little will replace her as the violin solo in Britten’s Violin Concerto, a work that she recently performed to critical acclaim in Vienna’s Musikverien and in Spain. The concerts, conducted by HKPO Artistic Director Edo de Waart, will be held on 1 and 2 July (Friday and Saturday), 8pm, at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.

In the same programme, de Waart will lead the Orchestra in Vaughan William’s Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis and Gustav Holst’s most famous work, The Planets.

Tasmin Little last performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic in 2003 and her outstanding musicianship is heard all across Europe, North America, Japan and Australia. Highlights of her recent international concerto engagements include her debut at Vienna's Musikverein (RSO-Wien), the Warsaw Philharmonic (Karlowicz concerto), and a tour with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle performing Ligeti's violin concerto (BBC Proms, Salzburg Festival, Berlin Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall and Philadelphia) which received unanimous critical acclaim ("the technical command was glorious" - The Guardian; "very beautiful" - Berliner Morgenpost; "a major violin talent" - Philadelphia Inquirer; "a formidable soloist" - New York Times).

Tasmin plays a 1757 Guadagnini violin and has, on kind loan from the Royal Academy of Music, the "Regent" Stradivarius. Please go to for more information about the violinist.
