Conductor Change for HKPO Concerts on 17th & 18th September

Hong Kong, 27th August 2004 – Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO) announces today a change of conductor in its upcoming concerts Simply Classic-Roman Travelogue on 17th & 18th September. Conductor Lu Jia has unfortunately withdrawn from these concerts due to unexpected personal reasons. Maestro Paolo Olmi has kindly agreed to step in to lead the HKPO in both performances. The programme remains unchanged.

Paolo Olmi is a highly respected conductor in the international arena and has been a familiar figure in major concert halls throughout the world including Europe, North and South America, Australia and Asia. Paolo Olmi has conducted such orchestras as Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony in London, Santa Cecilia Rome, Orchestra National de France and Orchestra of RAI Rome where he conducted the complete symphonies of Mendelssohn, which were televised by National Television. The year 2000 marked one of the highlights of Paolo Olmi’s musical career – he conducted Aida in China at the new Opera House in Shanghai, a joint collaboration with Teatro Comunale di Firenze, and won great praises.

An award-winning opera conductor, Paolo Olmi has conducted in international opera houses since his operatic debut in 1986 at the Teatro Communale Bologna. Highlights have included the Barber of Seville, of which the overture will be performed in the upcoming HKPO concerts. Paolo Olmi was awarded, with stage director Pier Luigi Pizzi, the French music critics prize for the Best Opera of the Year for the outstanding production of William Tell at the Theatre de champs Elysess, Paris.

Tickets are available at URBTIX at HK$280, 200, 140, 80.
