Andris Poga


Andris Poga has been the music director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) since the season of 2013/14.

Highlights of recent seasons have included concerts with the leading orchestras of Germany, France, Italy, Japan and other countries. After the first successful collaborations he has been invited back to the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester Hamburg, WDR Symphony Cologne, Munich Philharmonic, Deutsches Symphony-Orchester Berlin, Dresden Philharmonic, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. He has also conducted the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, SWR Symphony Orchestra in Stuttgart, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, St Petersburg Philharmonic, Accadmia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich, Orchestre National de France and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra among many others. Last season marked his debuts with the Oslo Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony, Shanghai Symphony and RAI National Symphony orchestras.

For the 100th anniversary of Latvia, he toured Germany, France and Switzerland with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra in October 2018.

Poga won the First Prize of the Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition in 2010, which thrust him into the international scene. He became an assistant to Paavo Järvi at the Orchestre de Paris, working with him from 2011 to 2014, and from 2012 to 2014 he worked as an assistant conductor for the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Poga has graduated from the conducting department of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. He also studied philosophy at the University of Latvia and conducting with Uroš Lajovic at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts.
