Benjamin Bayl

Born in Sydney, Benjamin Bayl was the first Australian Organ Scholar at King’s College Cambridge.  He studied conducting at London’s Royal Academy of Music, and was appointed Assistant Conductor to Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. He has made highly successful debuts with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy, RTV Slovenia Symphony, Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano, Britten Sinfonia, The Hanover Band, Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra, Collegium Vocale Gent and the Scandinavian orchestras of Gävle, Umeå, Aalborg, Sønderjyllands and Drottningholm.

In the world of opera, he has conducted for Opera Australia, Staatsoper Berlin, Opera de Oviedo, Royal Danish Opera, Den Jyske Opera, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Teatro Comunale di Sassari and English Touring Opera. He also conducts major oratorios by Bach, Handel, Haydn and Mozart with both period and modern orchestras.

Highlights of the 16/17 season include concerts with Malaysian Philharmonic, Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino, Bremer Philharmoniker, Orchestra of the Australian National Academy of Music, Orchestra i pomeriggi musicali, a tour of China with The Hanover Band, a tour of Europe with B’Rock and Vocalconsort Berlin, and concerts in Oviedo, Wroclaw, London, Sydney and Melbourne.
