Johnson Li

Johnson Zhongxin Li is currently studying piano with Mr Robert McDonald in the Pre-College Division of the Juilliard School, as well as composing and conducting. Johnson previously attended the Junior Music Programme at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he studied with Ms Eleanor Wong.

Since the age of 8 Johnson has been invited to perform piano concertos with world renowned orchestras and conductors. He has performed with the London Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony, Hong Kong Philharmonic, China Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony, Guangzhou Symphony, Shenzhen Symphony and Xiamen Philharmonic orchestras. By working with such prominent orchestras, Johnson has gained a lot of performing experience. Renowned conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach and Long Yu have both praised Johnson for his talent in music as a teen pianist.

Johnson has often been invited to play with Lang Lang and has been awarded a scholarship from the Lang Lang International Music Foundation. In June 2013 he made his debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall, performing Beethoven’s Sonata op.6 for piano four hands at two pianos with Lang Lang in the “Lang Lang and Friends” Benefit Concert, which was a huge success. The show was highly praised by mainstream media, including CCTV, FOX TV, New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. In 2015 Johnson toured to Japan with the China Philharmonic Orchestra. His performance was admired by the Japanese audience as well as by classical musicians. In 2016 he performed the Mozart Piano Concerto no. 20 with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the auditorium of Foreign Office in London, which was also highly praised.
